My OneCare Nightmare! Absurd!

In the last post, I said that I bought Windows Live OneCare for my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop. I thought that it was an all in one light weight security program.

So I installed it. After I did this and rebooted my laptop, I received a message saying that I have to finish installing Live OneCare. So I clicked on the button that said 'Finish Installation. But I received another error message saying that OneCare cannot connect to the Internet network. But my Internet connection works and I can browser all other web sites. So I turned off my firewall and turned off any other programs that may cause the problem. But it still did not work. Yep, same problem. So I went to Windows Live OneCare trouble shooting web site and did all the things that were listed like downloading a program that helped the installation process, change my Internet options, etc. I rebooted my laptop several times but the problem still occurred. By now, I was really frustrated. Even though my laptop is not as clean as when I first got it and that I have installed a few other security programs, OneCare still should have installed. (I have uninstalled the other programs) Take note of that other security programs install on my laptop perfectly and smoothly.

So I ringed OneCare support. But first I had to find the phone number to the support team. This was a nightmare. The support number should be printed on the OneCare manual book and also the OneCare box. After I spent 30 minutes finding the number I called them. Most of the support people were nice and patient. That was probably the first good impression after I bought the program. The support guy told me to install and run several things and patches and tried many things but it still did not resolve my problem.

So the final option as to reinstall Windows. (Vista) This was my last option but it was the only one left. So I did. And finally Windows Live OneCare worked. Finally. Take a breathe now. Finally. My first day with OneCare (fully working) has been good. It detects any odd problems, does regular tune-ups. In the following weeks, I will be writing up a review about Windows Live OneCare.
